What is the Birthday Party?

On the second weekend of January each year, fellows gather in Los Angeles to celebrate the 1960 founding of Overeaters Anonymous by Rozanne S. in the city where it all began. This 3-day conference serves to enhance personal recovery in OA and highlight fellowship and service, with a healthy dose of fun in the evenings. It is also the largest fundraiser of the year for the Overeaters Anonymous Los Angeles Intergroup.

What will you experience at the Birthday Party?

The Birthday Party includes workshops, panels, marathon meetings, and special focus meetings, all led by a diverse range of speakers who carry the OA message of recovery.

The weekend is also packed with opportunities for fellowship, including sponsor meet & greets, special interest meet-ups, yoga, and meditation, not to mention an opening ceremony and entertainment on Friday night, a dance party on Saturday night (so don’t forget your boogie shoes!), and a closing ceremony on Sunday morning.

What topics can we expect on the 2024 program?

By popular demand, the Sober Eating Workshop, Body Image Workshop and weekend-long Big Book Workshop are back! You can expect over 40 meetings that will explore the 12 Steps, emotional sobriety, relationships, relapse recovery, working with newcomers, and more.

This year’s special focus meetings and meet-ups include LGBTQ+, young people, BiPOC, anorexia-specific (a Birthday Party first!), bulimics, 100+ pounders, 200+ pounders, Spanish-language, APID (Asian, Pacific Islander, and Desi), men and male-identified, and women and female-identified.

As in previous years, there will also be four fabulous keynote speakers.

Where do I park?

Parking is available at the LAX Hilton at a discounted rate of $10 per day. Parking validation tickets will be handed out each day at the Birthday Party. Note that this rate does NOT include in and out privileges.

For those staying at the hotel, the discounted rate for overnight parking is $30 per day (discounted from normal $49 daily rate). This rate includes in and out privileges. A cheaper option is to purchase parking ahead of time at https://airportparkinglax.net which offers a daily rate of $17.45. However, this rate does not include in and out privileges. If you plan on not leaving during your hotel stay, the latter would be your best option.

Will meals be provided or can I bring my own food?

You can add a sit-down lunch and/or dinner on Saturday to your ticket purchase, or you are welcome to bring your own food. Please note that dining options within walking distance of the hotel are limited. For those staying at the hotel, refrigerators are available upon request.

What time do the festivities begin and end?

Registration opens at 2pm on Friday, January 12th, and the closing ceremony will end at noon on Sunday, January 14th.

How can I volunteer?

Please express your interest in event volunteering (ex. boutique staff, literature table, registration attendant, meeting timer) on the registration form when you purchase your ticket.
